May 2014
Dear Seattle DukeEngage Students,
Welcome to Seattle, the Emerald city, for your DukeEngage summer experience! This is the seventh year for DukeEngage in Seattle, one of the pilot cities for this program. We know you will have a memorable and meaningful experience in our fine city as you participate in non-profit work and enrichment activities planned throughout the summer.
Perhaps you have already perused or purchased a Seattle guidebook; if not – or even if you have – we wanted to offer some of our personal recommendations on activities to do, sites to visit, experiences to have, and restaurants to try while you are here. The lists that follow are a compilation of the recommendations provided by members of our DukeEngage Alumni Committee, who are from Seattle or have lived here for many years.
Also included in the packet is contact information for the Alumni Committee, as well as the list of Alumni Partners. Feel free to reach out to us at any time should you have any questions or need any expertise.
A couple of other notes:
- The Seattle Times Summer guide is a great resource, at seattletimes.com/summerguide (as of writing it has not been updated for 2014)
- The Seattle Recreational Walking Map may be useful to finding your way around Seattle’s varied neighborhoods - www.seattle.gov/transportation/walk_map.htm
We look forward to getting to know you, and wish you all the best this summer!
Sincerely,
The Seattle DukeEngage Alumni Committee
